MBFWA: Romance Was Born Spring/Summer 13-14

Designers Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales are unlike any other Australian designer with their unique and out-of-this-world way of thinking which can be likened to John Galliano. This year's Spring/Summer 13-14 collection was no exception. Romance Was Born wrapped up the first day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia with their own Magic Mushroom show space. Maidens to Princesses, an Alice in Wonderland inspired runway showcase looked like the set had been colour bombed. The models, designs and set were amass with so much colour that the show rivalled Nicki Minaj's costume wardrobe.

Maidens to Princesses followed on from their 2012 Marvel Comics collection with crazy wigs, theatrical makeup and an eye-catching set and the designs too stayed true to the label with puffy shirts, full skirts, capes, bold prints and a strong focus on pink and purple hues. Designer Luke Sales told media, "We don’t really follow fashion trends, but we focus on prints, and we have noticed amazing engineered prints to be a real focus."

Hair: directed by Alan White for ghd. "Romance Was Born continues to push the boundaries this year with a 60’s/70’s inspired collection. The signature blunt cut fringe of Peggie Moffitt, short sharp asymmetrical bobs in assorted lollipop colours will take the audience on a magical, mysterious tour. I’ve created four hair looks, all based on Peggie’s blunt cut fringe and mushroom shaped bob."

Makeup: directed by Val Garland for MAC.
