Review: Veet EasyWax Electrical Roll-on Kit is a nifty DIY at-home wax product but I do feel that the product could be better and for this reason I give it 2.5 stars. A hand-held wax device which holds specially designed wax cartridge re-fills, Veet EasyWax Electrical Roll-on Kit is a similar product to the hand-held roll on wax devices you would see in salon. When I was trained in beauty therapy in 2006 we were trained using the traditional wax pot but shortly after graduating and working in the industry, the hand-held wax applicators started to make their presence in salons because they are hygienic, prevent dripping wax from going everywhere, and glide over the skin with ease. As I have tried these in salon, I was really excited to embrace a home version.

Veet EasyWax Electrical Roll-on Kit comes with one wax refill cartridge which pops inside the applicator. The applicator comes with a charger to heat up the wax and can be used for approximately 20 minutes without the power cord. While Veet claims that the wax will be ready to use within 20 minutes, I found that the device dragged and pulled along my skin when tested and I could tell that the wax was not ready, so I left it for another 20 minutes. After 40 minutes, the wax was ready to use but still dragged along my skin and pulled it in an uncomfortable way so I would advise leaving the wax to charge for around an hour if possible. Now, to best sum up my experience with hair removal, I would like to mention that I have sensitive skin on my legs and whenever I wax my legs experience a spotty red sensation that lasts for a few hours. My skin (or leg hairs) are so sensitive that when epilating hairs, that spotty red sensation is twice the intensity and can last anywhere up to a week after epilating! For this reason, I have resorted to simply shaving my legs for the past two years. I was excited to wax my legs and find out how my skin reacted.

The 12 wax strips the pack includes are very good quality and the fibres do not fray or fall apart on the edges. Rolling the wax in the same direction as the hair growth, I left about a centimetre of room to peel back the strip. Holding my skin taut to ensure a clean removal, I would peel the wax strip back quickly and the majority of hairs would come out - but not all of them - so I would place the wax strip over the area and try again which worked 50% of the time. Because the wax, enriched with beeswax, did not heat up enough as promised, this meant that my application was slow, sticky and not smooth like I had been hoping for. I left the wax device plugged in for the whole duration of my leg wax but it did not seem to get hotter and soften the wax furthermore which I was disappointed about. The pain was tolerable but of course not pleasant as you would expect and while my skin was left with spotty red marks on the surface of my skin, this subsided within a couple of hours which was fantastic. After one hour, my right lower leg, the one I had started on, still had a long way to go until it was finished, and while most areas waxed were smooth, there were still a few hairs that had not come out and some which were either too shot or had snapped off during the removal process. If that seems like a long time to you (it did to me) then it might be best to just see your beauty therapist but if you are really keen to save money and invest in an in-home version then I would recommend Veet EasyWax Electrical Roll-on Kit over other competitors in the same price range because Veet are still the leaders in at-home hair removal products.

Because the removal process took so long, I decided to pack it up and clean away the excess wax on my leg with the wax removal wipes included in the kit. These wipes worked a treat, erasing all traces of wax on my leg and even cleaning my wax applicator in seconds. These wipes have a slightly greasy residue but this washed off easily with warm water. So the big question is will I use Veet EasyWax Electrical Roll-on Kit again? I would like to - should the wax transfer on to the skin easier and if it was a quicker process. The 12 wax strips would not be enough for someone who has not waxed themselves because waxing is a tricky and slightly daunting experience to a newbie. I tried to save my strips by flipping them over and using the reverse side once it was used, and also folding it in half again. While I can see the amazing potential Veet EasyWax Electrical Roll-on Kit has to offer, I do believe the wax itself needs a little more perfecting but love how accessible this device is, considering it was originally available to salon professionals only.
